We’ve just made some changes to the way you add a website to our directory. The main process is pretty much the same but there are a few changes which are outlined below.

Character Limit On Title
We’ve set a character limit of 80 on the title of website’s being added to the directory. This is to stop really long titles that can look spammy. The limit of 80 characters is generous enough to offer good keyword rich descriptive titles. Any website’s already accepted to the directory with titles over 80 characters will NOT be changed. This is only for new additions.

Character Limit On Description
We’ve also set a character limit on the description of website’s. This is again to stop very lengthy and spammy descriptions. A limit of 350 characters has been set which is enough to provide good textual descriptions. Any sites already in the directory with descriptions longer than 350 characters will NOT be changed. This is only for new additions.

Link Page URL Required
We are now asking for the URL of a sites links page when new sites are added. Over the past year we’ve had a few complaints that some sites don’t have a links page. Hopefully this measure will help combat this. At the moment the URL of a sites links page is not displayed publicly but it will be added to each sites directory listing in the future.

Public Directory Choice
When you add a new site you can now choose if your site appears in our public directory. If you select yes you listing will count as an incoming link.

Character Limit On Other Information
We’ve added a character limit to the other information section of your sites entry. This limit is set at 350 characters which is plenty to offer decent information. You can use this box to sell the reasons why you are a good choice to exchange links with plus other info you want to share about your website.

HTML Stripping
We are now automatically stripping HTML from all entries. This is to make sure our directory stays clean and tidy.

Better Performance
The server side code has been completely rewritten from scratch for adding a site.
We have managed to reduce the code by 2 thirds which will hopefully help performance on the site overall.
